Olga Varela Mejía

Olga was born in Mexico City in 1971. She has a B.A. in Latinamerican Literature from Universidad Iberoamericana. A product of several literary workshops, she published her first poems in several newspapers and magazines. She was included in the anthology Sucedió en un barrio de la ciudad (2000) and is the author of the short fiction collections Sueños de indigestion (2017) and El cuerpo y Alma (2020, and the novel Con los mismos ojos, published by Tandalia in Spain in 2019. She cowrote with filmmaker René Herrera the script for feature film Entrenando a mi papa (2015) and the shorts Igualdad (winner of first place for the 2009 La Neta Filmis contest and picked by Short Shorts; and Damas y caballeros, which won the 2010 Avon Award). She won the 2010 Humoristic Short Story Jara Carrillo Award and was prominently placed in the international Contacto Latino novel competition and the Juan Rulfo short story competition. She is teacher in the National Fine Arts Institute.
