Ileana Araguti is a Nicaraguan-American author and award-winning memoirist, best known for Shattered Paradise: Memoirs of a Nicaraguan War Child, a lyrical and unflinching account of childhood during wartime.

A refugee in the U.S. since childhood, she now balances her work as an educator in California with her writing. Her upcoming novel, A Pedal Away, sheds light on overlooked communities, inspired by her time in La Chureca.

She holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and is the mother of two children.
