Miguel Esteva

Miguel Esteva Wurts (Mexico City, 1966) — Chilango by birth and at heart, and therefore emotionally bipolar when it comes to his feelings about Mexico City — has been living and writing in Texas since 2014. And yet, the city insists on being a protagonist in everything he writes.
His two noir novels, La Gringa del Pastor and Una ciudad más gris, más sucia, más necia (A Greyer, Dirtier, Stubborn City), published in 2020 by Bonilla Artigas, introduce his recurring character Calvo, a fallen lawyer who’s slipped down the social ladder, forced to live in a city that feels foreign, stuck in a job he’s not trained for, and with zero ability to “multi-task” his way out of it.
When not writing fiction, Miguel runs his blog Chilango in Texas, where — through neurotic and obsessive essays — he tries to untangle his emotions about family, friends, awkward situations, and the city he left behind. From there, his cries of “my kingdom for an authentic taco al pastor (with everything)” are drowned out by the roar of trucks on the highway.
His articles have been published in Reforma and El Siglo de Torreón.
