Mónica-Ramón Ríos
Mónica-Ramón Ríos is a writer, editor and professor. She writes about immigration experiences, cinema, women’s literature, decolonialized archives, lost objects and sexuality. Her fiction writing works around the limits of identity and radical poetry. Car on Fire (2020) is a collection of short stories, translated into English by Robyn Myers. Segundos (2010) narrates the story of the suicide of two young Chilean stars in the 90’s, to give voice to those trampled by that era’s economic crisis. Alias el Rocío (2014) and Alias el Rucio (2015) are twin novels, about the narrative of missing individuals who are deleted from local history, including women, animals and political prisoners who are transformed into marketable stories. Several of her short stories have been published in magazines and anthologies, both in their original language and in translation. She publishes articles on books, film reviews and other topics in magazines across Latin America and the United States. She teaches literature, gives conferences and runs workshops. In 2008, along with writer Carlos Labbé, she launched Sangría Editora, which is a publishing collective in Chile and the US.
