Yelitza Ruiz

Yelitza Ruíz is a lawyer with a specialization in Human Rights and Social Security, a Master’s degree in Art and Literature Studies, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Law. She is the author of several books, including Abril en Casa (Tarántula Dormida, 2011), Cartografía del tren (BUAP, 2018), Hilo negro. Mujeres y Revolución en el Partido Liberal Mexicano (Brigada para Leer en Libertad, 2020), Lengua materna (UNAM, 2020), and Coyote (Posdata/UANL, 2023).

She has received numerous literary awards, such as the Ignacio Manuel Altamirano National Poetry Prize (2022), the Youth Literature Prize in Literary Essay (2012), and the María Luisa Ocampo Poetry Prize (2012). She has been a recipient of the FONCA Young Creators Grant in the area of poetry in 2013–2014, 2017–2018, and 2020–2021.

Her work has been featured in several poetry and academic essay anthologies. She leads the Women and Revolution project, which focuses on researching historical archives related to women’s participation in the Mexican Revolution. Her research lies at the intersection of law, history, and literature.

She is a member of the National System of Art Creators (Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte). Her poetry collection Variación de la escama will be published by Fondo de Cultura Económica in 2025.
